Frequently Asked Questions

What should we wear?

There are many factors that go into planning for your family photography session. Your photographer will help you to choose a beautiful location and plan for the best light of the day, but how do you plan what to wear for your family photos?

Family photography is an investment that you are your loved ones will cherish for years to come. Spending time to plan your outfits can really bring your photos to the next level! But where do you even start?

Start with one person’s outfit and build off of that

Once you have chosen one family member’s outfit, take an element from that outfit and build from there. You can then use the colours and patterns to help guide you. I often suggest Mom to pick her outfit and guide the others from there.

Aim to “go together” but not to “match”

Once you have decided on one outfit, pick an element or two that you want to bring into the rest of your family’s outfits. You do not want to dress everyone in the same colour or have the whole family wearing competing prints. Patterns and textures that compliment each other photograph beautifully and can add interest to your images. Neutrals and organic tones are timeless and can be especially beautiful if accented with textured fabrics such as lace.

Don’t be afraid of colour!

If you love colour, don’t be afraid to incorporate it into your session. If you need some inspiration, take a look at some inspiration photos and base your colour tones on those that you are drawn to! Just be sure to aim for complementary colours. Jewel tones, fall colours, and deeper tones photograph best. I generally suggest avoiding colours such as candy apple red, royal blue, or bright/ fluorescent colours,  as they can reflect back onto your skin. Ensure the colours you choose compliment each other, but are not all the same.

Where are you based and do you travel?

I am based in Red Deer, AB and yes I love to travel! I was born to travel. Short trips, long trips, short plane rides, long plane rides! I am in. There are of course additional fees for my travel which will range pending if I am driving, flying or spending the night. But basically additonal $100 for Calgary/Edmonton and Kananaskis/Canmore/Nordegg milage is included in the price.

Is there a deposit fee?

Yes, all family session there is a $150, weddings are a $1000 NON REFUNDABLE fee.. That being said, I do understand that life happens, so you are allowed to transfer this fee for another session or a different date if we need to reschedule. Remaining balance is due 3 days before your family session or one month before your wedding date.

When will we get our photos?

I promise I do my best to get every gallery back as soon as possible! I do understand that it is exciting and you want to see/share them! But depending on the season I do ask you to give me 2-3 weeks to get all single-family sessions back, 4-6 weeks for extended family and 8-10 weeks for wedding galleries. I do try and beat my times though! So they rarely take that long 🙂

How many pictures will we receive?

Based which package you choose, but it is never my intention to hold you memories hostage, so total collections can be purchases for a reasonable price.

What time is our session?

All outdoor sessions are at sunset. Which means the time will change depending on the season. If you want a general idea, just google it! You can find a date for your location that works for your families schedules, examples sunset is typically 9/10pm in the spring and 6/7pm in the fall.

Newborn, lifestyle and boudoir sessions are always mid day, there’s a lot more time available for these sessions but they still need to be done long before the sunset for the right amount of lighting.

Can my dog/pet come?

YOU BET! Don’t forget the dog! Or cat. Or hamster if you want! I just please ask do not pack a snake as I am terrified.. and that you find them a nice leash that matches everyone. Something not bright, frayed and doesn’t have any poop bags attached to it.

When do you reschedule?

Typically if we are going to reschedule due to weather it will be the day off. Even just hours before. We live in Alberta, you really never know what the weather will be until an hour before. And honestly, a little rain or snow just adds so much to the image I prefer to just let nature take us away! But if it is a blizzard, not safe to drive or a monsoon we will find a new date for you. I just ask not to bring it up a week in advance, because it will change!
